Debated. Scans show a street grid and a large arena, but no inscription names the town.
The town is at Stein, in Lower Austria. Coins show it went out of use at about AD 180. Magnetic and radar scans show straight streets, graveyards, a fort, and an amphitheatre. One archaeologist estimates the arena could hold 8,000 people. A fort here may have housed little more than 500 soldiers.
It is still not proved that this town is the place Ptolemy called Claudivium, and the page does not show exactly why the people left.
