A tall headdress in a riverbank grave

Oka River, Russia. late 6th and early 7th centuries AD. Greece and Rome. Known. Free

The page does not say that the headdress was tall.

Known. A high-status grave of a woman held a ceremonial headdress with cross-shaped brooches.

The grave is at the Zvyaginsky II cemetery, on the high bank of the Oka River, in the Nizhny Novgorod Region of Russia. Some graves are dated to the late 6th and early 7th centuries AD. Many ornaments are dated to the late 7th and early 8th centuries. The headdress had eight cross-shaped brooches, seven small ones around the skull and a larger one behind the head. Tin-lead beads and leather cords with bronze rings were part of it. The dig also recorded weapons, belts, and six horse burials among 43 graves.

The page says those dates can still change, because direct radiocarbon dates are lacking.
