A giants' tomb with two floors

Macomer, Sardinia. about 1800 BC. First cities. Known. Free

No giants were found in this tomb.

Known. It is a Bronze Age stone grave with two floors inside.

The tomb is at Carrarzu Iddia, near Macomer, in Sardinia. It stands about 740 metres up. Pottery from the chamber dates it to about 1800 BC, in the early Nuragic time. It is built of trachyte blocks. It has a burial room and a curved front court where people gathered. The room inside is split into two levels, which is rare among these tombs. Thieves had already robbed it. Some pieces of pottery were still recovered. Later people called tombs like this Giants' Tombs, because they thought only huge beings could move the stones. The page says they were shared graves for ordinary people.

Archaeologists still do not know if the two floors were built for strength, or for a burial custom.
