A heavy gold ring from a rebel time

Known. A large gold ring was buried after a rebel decade in Britain.

It was found in a field in South Somerset, England. The ring weighs 48 grams and dates to the late third century. A blue and grey stone shows the goddess Victory driving a two-horse chariot. Nearly 300 Roman coins were buried with the ring, with lead and pottery. The coins date the hiding to soon after AD 297, when Rome had taken Britain back.

The page says the owner may have backed a rebel ruler. It does not name the owner.
