Venus, found under a castle

Bodiam Castle, England. 2nd century AD. Greece and Rome. Debated. Free

A whole statue of Venus was not found.

Debated. Only a small clay piece is thought to show Venus.

It was found at Bodiam Castle, in East Sussex, England. It is pipeclay, from the 2nd century AD. Experts think it was made in Central Gaul. A full figure would have stood, holding a garment and touching her hair. The dig also found tiles stamped for the Roman fleet, the Classis Britannica, plus pottery, glass, and a pot with a face. Those date mainly from the 2nd to the 4th centuries.

The page is not sure this fragment is Venus.
