Known. The tooth is from a grey seal, not from a badger, a wolf, or a beaver.
It comes from Kents Cavern, in Devon, England. It is 15,000 years old. The page says it is the first seal-tooth pendant known in Britain, and only the fourth of its age in Europe. The tooth is from a male grey seal about 12 years old. A hole was drilled in the root with a flint point. Cord wear shows it was hung for many years. In that ice-age time the sea was 50 to 100 miles from the cave.
The page does not say whether the seal was hunted or found dead on the shore.
