A tiny Roman fort under garden lawns

Bearsden, near Glasgow. around AD 142. Greece and Rome. Known. Free

Known. A small Roman fort stood under back gardens.

The gardens are on Boclair Road, in Bearsden, near Glasgow, Scotland. The fort belongs to the Antonine Wall. That wall was ordered around AD 142. It was a turf bank on a stone base, about 37 miles long. Wood from a ditch beside the fort dates to between AD 127 and 247. The stone base runs at a right angle to the wall. Two pieces of Roman pottery lay under the stones. The page says the Romans left this wall in the AD 160s, after about twenty years.

The page does not say what is still argued.
