The sun temple itself was not found.
Debated. A Greek text cut into a column base is only a new clue in an old argument.
The base is under the floor of the Great Mosque of al-Nuri, in Homs, the Roman city of Emesa. The page gives no age for the writing. The base is about one metre by one metre. One idea puts the temple of the sun god Elagabalus under the mosque. Another idea puts it on the citadel mound. Old accounts say this city-centre spot was a pagan sanctuary, then a church, then a mosque.
The page says digging under the working mosque is not possible, so the place of the temple is not settled.
